Nikolaj Kirke”.

Skt.

    Greetings from New Zealand

Forgive me for not writing in Danish.

Please can you help me, or refer me to someone who can help?

    Regarding:
Peder Jensen – date of birth – 22 April 1844 (Raklev)
Karen Jensen – date of birth – 8 January 1842 (Raklev)

I am struggling to trace my great grandfather – Peder (and wife Karen, children Signe M, Maren S, Rasmus C) Jensen.
Bogense has been documented on the Danish Emigration database as their last known address.
We suspect that they were only there visiting Peder’s brother(s)to say good-bye before emigrating via Hamburg to New Zealand on the 27 July 1872..
Do you have knowledge where I can find a record of his temporary address while he was in Bogense just prior to this date? It may be an address belonging to one of his brothers (Lars or Soren) .

Possible permanent JENSEN family Bogense residents:
Brother – Lars Jensen – date of birth 9 Jan 1838 (Rosnaes)
Brother – Soren Jensen – date of birth 25 April 1840 (Raklev)
Sadly I have no other information about these brothers.

I am very grateful if anyone can help find my family, and eventually I’m hoping to find any existing family members still in Denmark.

    Kind regards
    Kathy van Bokhoven-Jensen

    Dear Kathy van Bokhoven-Jensen,

I am afraid the enquiry is somewhat outside Churches of Denmark’s research field. Our main focus is the church’s history and biographical information about deaths is primarily relevant to our work if it provides information about the burials, church stools and historically interesting head stones.

When I lacked biographical information on the inhabitants of Bogense, I frequently found DIS-Danmark to be helpful, http://www.dis-danmark.dk/index.php. I do, however, think that they primarily read official records on birth, marriage and death. Never the less, someone may have information on the two possible residents in Bogense. You may also want to contact Nordfyns Museum in Bogense, http://www.nordfynsmuseum.dk, which has an archive on the town.

If this is unsuccesful, I think a way to proceed is via the State Archives: http://www.sa.dk/content/us/genealogy. However, I think you should team up with a person, who can do the actual research for you, as it requires that you visit the archive in Odense physically.

I have never done any genealogy myself, but based on your mail, I think you should perhaps focus on the Kalundborg region (Sjælland/Zealand) if you don’t find anything in Bogense. As you perhaps know both Raklev and Røsnæs are situated in that area.

    Kind regards,

    David
